Staff at Paignton’s Beverley Holidays raised both smiles and a charity windfall this month when they were put through their baking paces in a very good cause.

Members of the park team were taking part in a lighthearted cake-off competition as park of Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

And after the crumbs were cleared away, a count-up revealed that the charity would be served a donation of over £350.00 to support its life-saving work.

Reception staff, entertainers and other park personnel all swapped their uniforms for aprons to battle it out in the kitchens for the title of Beverley’s Star Baker.

The team’s delicious cake-off creations were then set before a specially convened judging panel to deliver their lip-smacking verdicts.

They comprised local Macmillan volunteer Fay Timblin, White Rock Festival of Learning representative Simon Waugh, and Beverley entertainer Aaron Garner.

Following the panel’s deliberations, coffee morning guests at the park made short work of the competing cakes in return for generous charity donations.

The event also saw children from White Rock Primary School take part in a cupcake decorating challenge, attended by the park’s cuddly mascot Beverley Bear.

Group leader of Macmillan’s Torbay Fundraising Group, David Shepard, thanked everyone involved for making the occasion such an outstanding success.

Park marketing director Claire Jeavons said that both the staff team and the many who attended the cake-off had enjoyed a great time for a great cause:

“It’s brilliant that we have been able to their pockets.

“Beverley Holidays has a long tradition of charity fundraising, and members of our team are always enthusiastic supporters of our initiatives.

“On this occasion they really excelled themselves, and wowed both the judges and guests with their baking skills – and without a single soggy bottom in sight!” added Claire.

Set in the heart of the English Riviera, Beverley Holidays is a family-run group of parks offering boutique holiday caravans, luxury lodges, camping and touring, and a wealth of facilities.
