Drum roll for Fife park taking top conservation award

The Fife park has been announced as the winner of the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level.

The award scheme was founded 25 years ago by botanist David Bellamy who sadly passed away in December 2019.

Assessors for the award said that Clayto be a true champion of the Scottish countryside.

Located just outside St Andrews in the tranquil Eden Valley, the 100-acre park provides holiday caravans and lodges tors.

Park manager Elaine Paxton said the David Bellamy Conservation Award was entirely the result of a team effort:

“Running Clayton Caravan Park on sustainable lines has always been a priority, and all the team here share an enthusiasm for taking care of the environment,” she said.

“Their skills and knowledge are vital to stay.

“In fact, many families choose Clayto protect our natural heritage,” added Elaine.

Butterflies and honey bees helped the park wing its way tors.

They range from grassland clover to high nectar-bearing blooms in planters which take many shapes and forms, including whisky barrels.

Assessors also praised the park’s care of its 10-acre woodland and its extensive areas of hedging which offer food resources and habitats to many different animal and bird species.

Bird boxes and bug hotels are located throughout the grounds, and many measures have been put in place to minimise the park’s energy and water consumption.

Also highlighted in the award was park’s engagement with the local community, including the involvement of school children in some of its conservation projects.

Clayto be used by sporting groups and for various local events.

In addition to his award, the park also received four extra commendations for protecting honey bees, providing woodland habitats, planting wild flowers, and being “a good neighbour”.

Awarded a ton Caravan Park’s facilities include a highly regarded bar and restaurant, entertainment, and many children’s activities.

It is also currently developing a new leisure complex with a swimming pool and gym which will be available for use by both holiday guests and local residents.
