COUNTY DURHAM MP Paul Howell took time out from Westminster to help a local family celebrate English Tourism Week at its holiday park bordering the River Tees.

The Sedgefield member was at Newbus Grange Country Park near Darlington where he welcomed by Gilbert and Nathan Maguire, both directors of the family business.

The annual tourism event, which runs until 31 May, shines a spotlight on England’s tourism sector, and the huge contribution it makes to the UK economy.

Newbus Grange Country Park is one of eight parks now owned by the Maguire family who started out in business 40 years ago, developing parks aimed at the quality holiday market.

The MP was taken on a tour of the twelve acres of landscaped grounds of the park which is located in the picturesque village of Neasham, near Darlington.

Holiday home owners at the park enjoy tranquil rural surroundings

Mr Howell commented: “It was an absolute pleasure to visit this fabulous operation and to hear Gilbert and Nathan’s plans and visions for the future.

“This country park which sits alongside the River Tees on the border of North Yorkshire and County Durham, is a great base for people to enjoy Darlington and its surrounds.

“Country parks such as this are helping local economies, particularly in rural locations, to bounce back and create sustainable jobs in a safe environment,” added Mr Howell.

Open twelve months of the year, the park owns the fishing rights for its stretch of the River Tees, and also boasts a woodland dog walk, children’s play area, and outdoor heated swimming pool.

Gilbert Maguire said he was delighted that Mr Howell was able to take time out to join his company’s celebration of English Tourism Week.

He said that the MP has consistently shown that he understands very well the importance of the region’s visitor economy, and that the family is very grateful to him for his support.

Maguires Country Parks, all graded five-star by Visit England, are based in quiet rural locations in Northumberland, County Durham and North Yorkshire.

They have also received the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level for the many environmental and wildlife projects carried out by the family.
