Poston Mill holiday park in Peterchurch, Herefordshire, took centre stage at a national tourism conference this month (November) when delegates swapped their hotel for a hay-wagon.

Members of the Best of British parks group left their conference hotel in Ross-on-Wye to enjoy a study tour of nearby Poston Mill, with traditional farm transport laid on.

The visit took place on the final day of the annual get-together of the parks consortium which is made up of independent businesses recognised for their high quality standards.

At Poston Mill, some 40-plus park owners from across the UK were able to see how one of their most highly-acclaimed colleagues maintains its celebrated reputation.

Last year, the park beat thousands of other eligible parks to win the top title and a gold accolade in the national VisitEngland for Excellence Awards.

This year saw Poston Mill scoop the Visit Herefordshire Award for Excellence 2016 in the park category, and a silver award from VisitEngland for its dog-friendly facilities.

Poston Mill has come a long way since being taken over as a basic farm-based site just over 20 years ago by husband-and-wife team Wayne and Sarah Jones.

The couple have invested much time and energy into creating a high quality environment which now draws thousands of guests each year from the UK and overseas.

On board the park’s hay-wagon, Best of British members toured the 35 acres of carefully landscaped grounds which include a popular pitch-and-putt course plus restaurant and shop.

They were told too about the family’s many environmental initiatives which have led them once again this year to receive the David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level.

The park provides caravan holiday homes to own as well as cottages and holiday caravans to hire, plus pitch facilities for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents.

Earlier at the Best of British conference, members looked back on a very busy year for their businesses, during which there was a widely reported rise in staycation holidays.

Consortium chairman Claire Jeavons of Beverley Holidays in Devon said that the group’s strength lay in its shared values of providing the highest standards of hospitality and customer care.

Many holidaymakers, she reported, remain loyal to Best of British parks because they know that members will all deliver on the type of quality experiences they most enjoy.
