Parents picking pods for autumn escapes says parks group

Fresh air holidays this autumn – but without the flap of erecting a tent, and well insulated from the weather

YOUNG FAMILIES with a taste for outdoor living can now enjoy all the fun of camping – without the flap of putting up a tent, says Park Holidays UK.

The group reports a bonanza of bookings this autumn for its weatherproof camping pods which are available across many of its parks until the end of October.

Especially strong demand, it says, is coming from mums and dads with pre-school children who are seeking a fresh-air holiday with added creature comforts.

At Park Holidays UK, these include efficient wall-mounted heaters in all of its pods, plus full insulation and double-glazing to ensure everyone stays snug.

Many parents with no worries about their youngsters missing school, says the company, are opting for quieter mid-week pod breaks at its seaside parks in southern England.

Children especially love the sense of freedom which comes with a pod holiday

October escapes are also proving popular with couples who are looking for an autumn get-away when the English countryside is ablaze with colour

Accommodation in the lockable pods takes the form of a double bed, plus bunk beds which are always voted a big hit by children, says Park Holidays UK.

USB and electrical sockets ensure that everyone can stay connected to their devices, and also plug in everyday appliances such as hair dryers.

Just a short walk away are shower and toilet facilities, and freshly prepared meals, snacks and hot drinks are available from the park cafes and bars.

Pods combine all the best elements of camping, says Park Holidays UK, such as the sense of freedom, being closer to the countryside, and sleeping under the stars.

All that’s missing, it says, are the chilly nights, having to struggle with flapping fabric and guy ropes, and then packing everything up again after the break.

Up to four people can sleep in the pods, and prices for the whole party start from £30.00 per night with a minimum stay of two nights.

The seven seaside holiday parks in the group which are offering pod accommodation until the end of October are based in Devon, Kent, Essex and Suffolk.

But with the likelihood of a spectacular autumn soon on the way, says Park Holidays UK, early booking for mid-week and weekend breaks is strongly advised.
