Parks making news scoop award nomination for website

Wildlife-rich Skelwith Fold in Ambleside, Cumbria, is among the parks making environmental news

PARK OWNERS with stories to tell have put this website on the fast-track to a major business award aimed at small and medium-size enterprises.

StayUKNews has been nominated for the prestigious UK Enterprise Award by researchers at SME News, organisers of the annual contest which is now in its seventh year.

The awards honour smaller businesses which are deemed to have made “outstanding achievements” and pioneered innovation in their specialist area of work.

Now the team being StayUKNews must wait until the autumn finals of the award to find out if judges will present them with a top placing.

The website first went live in 2015 with a mission to provide a news platform for Britain’s 3,000 holiday and residential parks, most of which are themselves SME enterprises.

Parks make good news, says Jon Boston

Today its thousands of followers on X/Twitter include many journalists and travel writers in addition to politicians and regional and national tourism bodies.

It has also helped to spark news articles and TV coverage about how parks are supporting the visitor economy and, in the residential sector, providing high-quality retirement lifestyles.

“The vast majority of parks are family-run businesses, often passed down through successive generations who seize every opportunity to adapt and innovate,” said the website’s Jon Boston.

“Their achievements in areas such as harnessing green technology, protecting the natural world, and providing high quality but affordable holiday experiences are amazing.

“We were delighted when SME News told us that we had been short-listed for a UK Enterprise Award, and we’ll now be keeping our fingers firmly crossed!” he added.
