Wales park marks 75 years of making happy holiday memories

Guests enjoy an afternoon tea celebration at Maes Dolau to mark the North Wales park’s landmark year

SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS of providing memorable fresh air holidays in North Wales are being celebrated this year by a family’s seaside holiday park.

Maes Dolau Caravan Park near Llandudno is marking its anniversary with a series of events, some involving the owners of the 100 holiday caravans in its grounds.

They will include fundraising activities for Manchester’s Christie Hospital which has been adopted by Maes Dolau as its 2025 charity of the year.

The park was founded in 1950 and taken on in 1994 by former poultry farmer Rikki Proffitt and his wife Helen whose daughter Kelly today runs the business.

Over the years, Rikki and Helen invested much time and energy into creating first-class surroundings for their holiday guests

Their reward was to see Maes Dolau gain a reputation as one of North Wales’s most welcoming and best cared-for parks for families seeking perfect rural get-aways.

The park is just a short distance from the popular seaside town of Llandudno and its sandy beaches

Kelly says she is proud to be carrying forward her parents’ determination to provide the best possible experience for customers:

“Our holiday home owners come from both sides of the Welsh border, but all share a similar love for this beautiful part of the world where we are based,” she said.

“The park really is in a privileged location being just a short distance of one of Wales’s most popular coastal towns with its historic promenade and famous pier.

“Many other fantastic destinations are also just a short distance away, including Colwyn Bay, the Conwy Valley and Snowdonia – and there are some great walks starting from the park.

“Maes Dolau does seem to inspire a lot of loyalty among customers, and one family from St Helens in Merseyside has owned a holiday caravan here for 58 years!

“Everyone is delighted to be celebrating this milestone anniversary with us, and we’re looking forward to many more decades of showcasing Welsh hospitality at its best,” said Kelly.

The park hosted a well-attended afternoon tea celebration in its grounds this September to which all holiday home owning families were invited.

There is more information about the park, which also offers touring pitches, a shepherd’s hut and a two-bedroom holiday cottage for rent, on its website at www.maesdolaucaravanpark.co.uk
