Hampshire family’s joy as their glamping park is named among the best in the UK

THE HUSBAND-AND-WIFE TEAM behind Two Hoots Glamping Site near Winchester are celebrating a national honour from a leading outdoor holiday organisation.

Campsites.co.uk has placed the business among its much-anticipated annual 150 Outstanding Sites list for 2024, out-performing thousands of other eligible UK parks.

Honours from the leading camping website are regarded as a reliable guide to the most popular and best-regarded park destinations throughout Britain.

Shaun Ascough and his wife Michele said they were “knocked for six” when they learned that experts from Campsites.co.uk had chosen them for the award.

Selections are based on customer reviews with Two Hoots Glamping Site achieving an average score of 4.96 out of five, and 100% saying they would recommend it to others.

Shaun and Michele acquired the park three years ago as their “dream project” after spending a career in property development both in the UK and South Africa.

Spacious glamping units on the park provide all home-from-home comforts and conveniences

This year they began expanding the park with a development of new super-luxury glamping units including eco-lodges with a minimal carbon footprint.

Shaun says the five-acre grounds, based near the Hampshire village of Bighton, are a “wildlife wonderland” for a host of different animal, bird and plant species.

The hilltop site, where guests can enjoy panoramic views across the countryside, includes hare, red squirrels, deer, pheasants, red kites and even glowworms among its residents.

There is also a wildflower meadow with many different native blooms which provide vital foraging for honey bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received this summer from guests, and for the amazing reviews which many left after their stay,” said Shaun.

“Especially pleasing is that the comments focussed not just on the quality of our accommodation and facilities, but also the standards of welcome and hospitality provided.

“Our aim has always been to create truly memorable holiday experiences in an away-from-it-all setting, and it’s great to know that we’re going along the right lines!” said Shaun.

The couple’s future plans include the installation of EV charging points for guests with electric cars, and the creation of additional wildlife habitats around the park.

During English Tourism Week in March this year, Two Hoots Glamping Site hosted a visit from Winchester MP Steve Brine who congratulated Shaun and Michele on their achievements.
