Survey reveals feel-good factor driving holiday home sales

Away Resorts’ survey found that the time kids spend on screens falls when they visit a holiday park

ALMOST TWO-THIRDS of holiday caravan and lodge buyers say ownership has improved their physical and mental health, and bolstered relationships with their families.

That’s just one of the findings of a new survey of over 370 holiday home owners undertaken this summer by Away Resorts, operators of 25 top-rated parks across the UK.

The report comes in the wake of recently published figures which show that searches for “static caravans for sale” are now running at over 20,000 monthly – a hike of 53% from last year.

Called The Holiday Park Community Report, the survey revealed that 60% of owners said being able to enjoy a getaway whenever they wanted was a primary reason for buying.

The report also found that priorities change depending on the maturity of owners with 68% of those aged 45-54 years buying in order to escape the stresses of everyday life.

A further 59% of this age range said they bought a holiday home to enable them to spend more quality time with families.

Those in later life, aged 60-plus, prioritised having a place which would allow them to build lasting memories with their younger relatives.

Nearly half of these older respondents (44%) regarded their holiday home as an asset which their children or grandchildren could also enjoy.

Almost a third of owners (31%) bought a holiday home with retirement in mind, and the survey showed that those who did so seem to be reaping the benefits.

Eight in ten (80%) of those who bought for retirement reported that holiday home ownership has had a positive impact on their physical and mental health.

Digging deeper, the survey showed that ownership has helped all age ranges develop closer relationships with their families, improve their social life, and achieve a better work-life balance.

Among owners with children or grandchildren, 72% say their youngsters’ screen time goes down when staying on the park, compared with when they are at home,

Kate Watts, spokesperson at Away Resorts, said that the survey gave a fascinating insight to the motivations for buying a holiday caravan or lodge, and the benefits that owners derived.

The full findings of the survey can be found online in The Holiday Park Community Report.
