A FAMILY’S AMBLESIDE holiday park, Skelwith Fold, has been named as England’s campsite of the year by the AA in its much-anticipated annual awards.
The 130-acre park near the shores of Windermere beat thousands of other eligible parks to take the prestigious national title which was announced in November.
AA judges described Skelwith Fold as “a top quality park in a beautiful setting” and praised its wooded grounds, nature trail and top-end accommodation such as luxury safari tents.
Owned by the Wild family for almost 30 years, Skelwith Fold was declared England’s top park after a rigorous appraisal by the AA of its facilities and services.
In the opinion of the expert judges, the five-star site – which also offers holiday caravans to own – can truly be described as a park right at the top of its game.
Henry Wild said that his family and the park team were absolutely delighted at the news of Skelwith Fold’s success:
“We feel both proud and humbled to have been selected for this amazing recognition from the AA, and it’s the icing on the cake for us after a very busy season” said Henry.
“What makes the award extra special is that we were assessed not just on the quality of what we offer, but also the friendliness, hospitality and warmth of welcome extended to visitors.
“Delivering this is very much in the hands of our park team, so they must take a big share of the credit for ensuring that guests always enjoy the best possible experience.
“We have received many messages of congratulations from our customers, the majority of whom are either repeat visitors or who come as the result of a personal recommendation.
“The news from the AA came just as Skelwith Fold was closing for the winter in November, so we’ll be back with a very big spring in our step next March!” he added.
Earlier this year, the park scooped Cumbria Tourism’s holiday park of the year accolade, and has also won awards for its care of the natural world and sustainable development policies.
Recent investments by his family in the park, said Henry, have included new luxury glamping facilities and additional solar technology to generate its own energy.
