Family’s joy as their park is voted best in Britain for camping holidays

Visitors from across Britain and mainland Europe have voted Holme Valley as their favourite

CAMPING FANS have voted a family’s West Yorkshire holiday park the best in Britain, and seen it crowned Campsite of the Year 2026 by major publishers Out & About Live.

Holme Valley Caravan and Camping Park in Thongsbridge near the Peak District received the accolade from the magazine at a glittering awards ceremony in London.

Out & About Live received thousands of votes when it asked readers to name their favourite location to pitch up for a camping break.

Their verdict was that Holme Valley ticked all the best possible boxes for high quality facilities, tranquil location, natural beauty and friendly atmosphere.

Many readers also highlighted the park’s abundant wildlife in its 16-acre grounds, the location of a former mill, as another reason why it makes visits such a pleasure.

Naomi Humphreys, a member of the family business, said that everyone felt both “proud and humbled” to have beaten hundreds of other eligible UK parks to the title.

Holme Valley Caravan and Camping Park was founded by Naomi’s parents, Phil and Hazel Peaker, forty years ago – and sustainability has always been the family’s watchword.

Animal and bird habitats have been created throughout the grounds, and a small wildlife lake on the park plays host to herons, dippers, and kingfishers.

The park has also received for many successive years the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level for the family’s many environmental initiatives.

“We have always attracted guests with a love of the natural world, and who enjoy exploring the glorious countryside which surrounds us,” said Naomi.

“But what makes this award very special to us is that readers were asked to vote not just on the basis of the location and quality standards, but also the hospitality on offer.

“Delivering this is very much in the hands of our park team, and so they deserve a lion’s share of the credit for our winning this award.”

As well as camping pitches including facilities such as heated amenity buildings with family bathrooms, Holme Valley provides a range of glamping accommodation.

Among the options are a luxury cabin by the lake and a charming Gingerbread Cabin with full furnishings, kitchen areas and timber decking for al-fresco dining.

The park also provides a convenience store with local produce, an adventure golf course, and plenty of opportunities children to let off steam in its new active play area.

Naomi says advance bookings for 2026 could create a record number of visitors this year with guests coming from both the UK and mainland Europe, especially Holland.

She and her husband Ben were presented with their Campsite of the Year 2026 award at a well-attended awards ceremony held at London’s Savoy Hotel.
