Centre stage for Lakes park in Cumbria Tourism awards

THE LAKE DISTRICT’S top holiday park for 2025 has been named in the Cumbria Tourism Awards as Park Cliffe, based near the shores of Windermere.

The family-owned business – praised by award judges for its standards of customer excellence – will now be fast-tracked into the national VisitEngland awards later this year.

Park Cliffe’s status as the Camping, Glamping & Holiday Park of the Year was announced in July at a glittering ceremony in Kendal, attended by hundreds of tourism professionals.

Stepping up to receive the judges’ congratulations was Jack Dickson who collected the trophy on behalf of his parents Susan and Derek Dickson.

The couple have owned Park Cliffe for the past 16 years, drawing visitors from across the UK and overseas to one of the Lakes District’s most spectacular locations.

Set in 25 acres of countryside framed by a backdrop of mountains and lakes, the park provides holiday homes to rent and own, glamping facilities, plus camping and touring pitches.

Its latest award adds to many accolades received over the years not just for the park’s quality standards, but also for the business’s commitment to the principles of sustainability.

Recent initiatives include the opening of a solar array project generating green energy for the park and saving 21 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere each year.

Susan Dickson says the Cumbria Tourism award was perfectly timed for the start of the main summer season, and she paid tribute to the park’s team members:

“Finalists for these awards are put under close scrutiny by judges, including a “secret shopper” visit, and they are looking not just at how well we maintain our facilities,” said Susan.

“Their focus is also on the type of experience we provide to guests, including the warmth of welcome and the hospitality and friendliness which visitors encounter.

“Responsibility for this is very much in the hands of our team members, and they are as determined as we are to create the best possible memories for couples and families,” added Susan.

The park is a member of the British Holiday & Home Parks Association, and there were triumphs too for Susan and Derek’s member-colleagues in the Cumbria Tourism Awards.

The Quiet Site on Ullswater was highly commended in Park Cliffe’s Park of the Year category, and Keswick’s Castlerigg Hall took the overall award for Regenerative Tourism.
