Snowdonia park becomes a peak performer in green awards

The tranquil green surroundings at Llwyn yr Helm attract nature-loving guests to the award-winning park

HONEY BEES and wild flowers have helped a family’s Snowdonia holiday park to blossom in a national environmental awards scheme.

Llwyn yr Helm Caravan Park in Gwynedd has been declared a winner of the prestigious 2019 David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level.

The world-famous botanist said that park owners Alun and Helen Rowlands, and their son Wyn and daughter-in-law Angharad, were very well-deserving winners of his annual accolade.

The gold conservation award was made after a detailed inspection of the park and its environmental policies by Professor Bellamy’s wildlife assessors.

Based on part of a working hill farm near the market to operate along sustainable lines says Angharad:

“We are looking all the time at ways to guests,” she said.

“Many visito protect our natural heritage.

“We are absolutely delighted with this award, and owe a big debt of thanks to our hardworking staff for all their efforts in helping us carry out our conservation work,” added Angharad.

The grounds also feature bird boxes, bug hotels and hedgehog homes built by the children of visitors as part of the park’s policy of giving youngsters a better understanding of nature.

David Bellamy highlighted too the park’s community involvement, including its hosting of local events and the fundraising carried out for good causes such as the air ambulance.

In addition to his main award, Professor Bellamy also gave the park three extra commendations for protecting honey bees, creating hedgerow habitats, and encouraging wild flowers.
